How Natalie Builds Her Body

Natalie was physically active in her younger years and through high school, but she discovered weight training when she began university. Over time, Natalie became more serious about using weight training to improve her physique.

In mid-2005, Natalie decided to pursue competitive figure. At that time, she approached Doug Schneider for help. Doug is the editor of SeriousAboutFitness.com and has coached a number of all-natural, national-level Canadian physique champions.

Within three months of training with Doug, Natalie won two regional-level figure competitions. After one year, she became a provincial level champion. Hi, my name is Natalie Waples.

I grew up in Northern Ontario, Canada, where I remained until I graduated from high school. At age 18, I moved to Ottawa to pursue my post-secondary education. I graduated from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in human resources, and today I work as a human resources officer for the federal government.

I knew at a very early age that I wanted to make a name for myself. I have always been active in sports, and I got involved in pageant-type modeling when I was in my early teens. I attended the Gauvreau School of Performing Arts modeling program when I was 13, and entered my first pageant, Miss Teen Sudbury, that same year. From then on, I competed in pageants at the regional, provincial, national and international level. These various competitions allowed me to develop my skills in both stage presentation and public speaking.

My introduction to figure competitions and fitness modeling came in 2005, and in this I have had more success than I could have ever imagined. In less than two years, I have won regional, provincial and national titles, which have translated into numerous modeling and traveling opportunities, and has been a great experience overall.

Some of the highlights of my competitive experience can be found below:
