Deciding to compete in the 2010 Interactive Nutrition SAF Fall Spectacular was a crazy idea. After all, I was a retired fitness competitor and I had not competed since 2002!
The last time I was onstage, I was in fitness competitions where there were three rounds: two physique rounds and a routine round. Training for the routine round was a challenge for me, because I didn’t have a gymnastics background and learning gymnastics in my late 20s was part of my mental and physical challenge. I had never done straddle jumps, or balance and flexibility moves such as the splits. Trying to overcome the physical challenge included overcoming the mental challenge as well. I would worry too much about injuring myself if I tried something new such as jumping up and landing on the ground in a pushup position . . . on hardwood.
