My first competition with Serious About Fitness (SAF) was very memorable. I started to compete in October 2010 and wanted to try as many organizations as possible to get a sense of where I truly belonged. There are many out there, and different organizations have very different objectives in what they are looking for in terms of body shapes and physiques. So, jumping from one organization to other can get confusing, since they all like something different.
In my research, I looked at SAF's online galleries. The pictures helped me to understand what SAF was all about. I decided to try SAF in the summer of 2011.
I was very pleased when I arrived backstage on competition morning to find there was so much camaraderie between the competitors: women who are all so beautiful and in top shape. To my surprise, I placed second in the Open Fitness Model category, which qualified me for SAF Elite Pro status. I was stoked! I just could not believe that, among all the girls, I got such a great placing, and it took me a couple of weeks to come down from cloud nine. I remember crying tears of happiness and emotion the next day on my bus ride to work.
I have since met lots of great girls and I retain wonderful friendships with many of them; in fact, Vanda Hadarean (2010 SAF Elite Pro Champion and 2011 SAF Masters Elite Pro Champion) is one of the great influences whom I’ve met through SAF. She is a remarkable woman with lots of knowledge about the fitness industry. I am very fortunate to know her and to have taken some classes from her.
SAF also has many opportunities for competitors. You can be part of seminars or photoshoots, and you can also take part in the SAF Camps. Doug Schneider (SAF's founder and president) always informs us about upcoming events. I must say, I will definitely return for more in the future – SAF is a remarkable organization for showcasing healthy, strong, and beautiful women.
