Doing Things That No One Else Does
Last month, I was at the Arnold Sports Festival in
Columbus, Ohio. For the most part, I was out of the public eye. Other than a few short
trips to the Expo, I was mainly behind- the scenes shooting candid photos from the Arnold
Classic, Arnold Amateur, Fitness International and Figure International events. The shot
of Zivile Raudoniene that you see on the cover this month was taken backstage, moments
after she won the 2009 Figure International title. I’m pretty sure that no one else
in the world has a picture just like that one.
In fact, as I took that picture and about 5000 others
(I’m not exaggerating), I realized that no other publication in the world is doing
the kind of things we do. For example, I didn’t see any other photographers backstage
shooting the stuff I did. As well, I don’t see others writing about the things we do.
For instance, it’s here that you can find coverage of top-level pros like Zivile,
Mary Lado, and Mindi O’Brien, but you’ll also find things about local-level
amateurs who are just starting out. We think that having broad coverage like this not only
makes us more appealing but unique too.
And there’s more. To the best of my knowledge,
we’re also the only publication to put on fitness camps and we’re the only one
to have our own competition. As I write this article, I’m just days away from going
to our SAF "Superstar" Fit Camp & Seminar in Kingston, Ontario. It’s
being held on March 28. When you read this, the camp will be complete and there will be
dozens of women who attended who are now inspired to get into the very best shape of their
lives. We will have made a positive impact.
In June, we have our Summer ’09 SAF Model Search, the
first of two competitions this year. When our SAF competitions began in 2007, our goal was
simply to put on a top-flight event that would be a showcase for active women. At the
time, we had no idea that it would grow to become Canada’s most prominent
women’s physique event that attracts the very best competitors anywhere. What’s
more, it has grown. Or SAF Model Search competitions started with only the
"open" division, which any woman from anywhere in the world can compete in. Now
there’s the prestigious, invitation-only SAF Elite Championship event. The SAF Elite
are woman who have placed in the top three in the "open" division. Last
year’s SAF Elite Champion was none other than Natalie Waples, Canada’s most
celebrated amateur figure competitor who is about to embark on her professional figure
career with the IFBB.
When you look at our coverage, content, camps or
competitions, it’s obvious that we’re doing things that no one else does. We
believe that’s what makes SeriousAboutFitness.com unique and helps to give us the
edge on our competition. However, we’re not about to stop there. We’re already
doing things no one else does, and in the future you’re going to see us do even more.
