Our Biggest Year Yet!

Many of the online fitness magazines slow down over the winter months, probably because of the cold weather and because the beach season seems so far away. But at SeriousAboutFitness.com, we keep going. Instead of winding down, we’ve been winding up to make 2009 our biggest year yet.

Part of making this our biggest year will have to do with what we publish online. We plan to feature more articles and have more photos so there will be much more for you to see and read. We’re already the largest publication of our type in Canada, but we still want to get even bigger and better.

The other part will focus on what we’re doing in the "real world," the competitions and fitness camps that we produce. It’s here that we’re planning to expand as well.

First, a little bit about our 2009 competitions. We’re holding two contests this year: the Summer ’09 SAF Model Search on June 20 in London, Ontario, and the Fall ’09 SAF Model Search on November 1 in Ottawa, Ontario. Both competitions are open to any women from anywhere in the world 18 years of age or older and will feature Figure Model and Fitness Model competitions. The June 20 competition will also include the 2009 SAF Elite Championship, an invitation-only event for ten of our current SAF Elite-qualified competitors. We’ll be announcing who will be taking part in the Elite portion on March 1.

Our SAF events are now the premier women’s physique shows in Canada and they attract the very best competitors who are looking for prizes and exposure opportunities. In 2009, we anticipate that the number of competitors will grow and, commensurate with that increase, we’re making each show even better. We’ll still be offering cash prizes for all the winners, but we’ll also be awarding even more prizes to the top-place finishers and adding new category prizes for other competitors in each show. Media coverage will be expanded even more. Inside Fitness covered each of last year’s shows, and the magazine’s publisher, Terry Frendo, judged three of our last four events. Superstar photographer Paul Buceta (Oxygen, MuscleMag, etc.) judged the Summer ’08 competition and featured candid behind-the-scenes photos on his own site that he had taken at the show. Paul told me that it was the best "model search" type of event he’d ever been to. Nytro Fitness also covered the Summer ’08 contest and many of the top finishers from our competitions have gone on to be featured in magazines like Oxygen. We’re working on bringing even more media to this year’s competitions to at least double the amount of exposure these shows receive.

Now, a word about the fitness camps. Last April, we held the SAF "Superstar" Fit Camp & Seminar in Kingston, Ontario. Natalie Waples, Nina Luchka, Michelle Matthews and I were the instructors. It was such a huge success that we knew we’d have to do it again. On March 28, we’re holding the 2009 version of that same camp, once again in Kingston, Ontario, and it will have exactly the same format as last year. But that’s not all. We’ll also be holding two more camps this year, one in northern Ontario in late May and the other near Toronto in October. Natalie Waples, who’s making her professional figure debut this year, will be running all these camps and will be enlisting the help of local athletes to give each event more of a regional flavor.

Obviously, we have an full year ahead of us and we will have to work hard to make a success of it. But we believe that, with your support, we have the potential, talent and ambition to make it all happen. This will be the biggest year yet for SeriousAboutFitness.com with the most things happening, and we want you to be part of it. We hope to see you at one of our SAF Camps or SAF Model Search competitions.
