Expose Yourself!
Not everyone who works out wants to be noticed and
publicized in a magazine or photo gallery. But there are some who do, and who can blame
them? After all, getting featured this way can be quite a reward for all that strenuous
effort in the gym.
However, getting publicity isn’t easy, since there are
a lot of women who are searching for the same thing, and there are only so many places
that can actually deliver this kind of exposure. As a result, only a fraction of those who
want the publicity actually get it. Obviously, then, the question is: How can you be
one of those who are seen? I can give you two good pieces of advice that can help get
you started on the right path.
The first thing to do is to go beyond just thinking about
becoming a celebrity – you have to actually do something to get there. It might mean
writing a letter about yourself, or even writing a story, and getting photos of yourself
done by a professional photographer. Then, you’ll have to assemble everything into an
orderly package and send it to as many magazines as possible. If you do this, the writers
and editors there will have something to work from. If you don’t do any of it and
just wait for someone to discover you, I can promise you this: You’ll be waiting
alone for a long, long time. So, take the initiative.
Second, you can’t do this just once – you have to
keep at it consistently. In fact, it’s not unlike looking for a job. Most people
don’t expect to land a job with the first resume they send out, so don’t expect
to be "discovered" the first time you send out a package about yourself.
Sometimes it takes months, even years, before the right person notices you.
But even if you do these two things, it’s still not
easy to get high-quality exposure. As I said, there are many other women out there doing
the same thing – it’s competitive! And it’s tough to know exactly where to
send your photos so that the right people see them. However, as frustrating as all this
sounds, it’s this dilemma that many women face that acted as the impetus for us to
create the SAF Model Search, which has been specifically designed to give many women
tremendous exposure opportunities.
Our inaugural competition will take place on June 15 in
Toronto, Canada. The event will feature Figure Model and Fitness Model categories, which
will make it a unique type of competition, since the two categories differ in key ways in
terms of presentation. There will be great prizes, including cash prizes for the
first-place winners, as well as gift packages for everyone who enters. Furthermore, the
exposure opportunities will be tremendous, not just for the winners, but for every woman
who enters.
For example, every entrant will be featured in our
gallery of photos that will be put online following the event. We’re also putting
together a DVD of the event that will not only feature the Figure Model and Fitness Model
competitions, but also "self-interviews" that competitors can send in when they
register. This DVD will be marketed worldwide.
Furthermore, there will be photographers and media
personnel on hand covering the event, providing even more exposure for those who enter.
And this doesn’t even touch on the exposure opportunities that the top three winners
will receive, such as featured photos across our network of sites, as well as the chance
to star in some of our future exercise DVDs. The top three will also earn SAF Elite
status, meaning that they’ll be able to compete in future Elite-division competitions
against our existing SAF Elite stars: Natalie Waples, Christy Wolfe, Stacey-Lynn
Mlinarevic, Kelly Taphouse and Deanne Ortman.
So, if you’re interested in getting first-rate
exposure and ready to take some initiative, the SAF Model Search could be just what
you’re looking for to give your career a kick start. What's more, you can do it without
having to resort to sending out countless packages about yourself with the hope that the
right person will some day discover you.
