SAF Model Search – A Fresh
Focus on Being Fit and Feminine
When I started SeriousAboutFitness.com almost five years
ago, I had a clear vision of what it should be about. I felt that it should be a
female-oriented fitness publication that promoted a healthy, athletic lifestyle. I also
wanted it to be positive and inspirational. However, I didn’t want it to be like many
of the publications that seem to have so little substance. Instead, I wanted
SeriousAboutFitness.com to be, as the name says, serious – in other words,
real. As a result, I’ve always stressed that the articles should have no "fluff" to them, so that if a
workout routine is being described, you can rest assured that it’s not something
written by a desk jockey who knows nothing about training. Rather, it’s something
that someone actually uses and gets results with.
Furthermore, I’ve always prided myself on the fact
that the photos of the women that we present here (and on the related sites like SAFCoverGirls.com and GirlsofSAF.com) are real, and not touched-up, heavily edited
Photoshop creations. This, again, has helped us differentiate ourselves. So, we’re
always on the lookout for healthy, athletic, attractive women to photograph and feature in
this manner.
In recent times, mind you, that has become more and more
difficult. In the past, we’ve relied on attending the various organizations’
events to discover new talent there. However, in recent years we’ve found that doing
so is no longer reliable, since many women who would be candidates to be featured in our
pages no longer compete, oftentimes because they’ve become dissatisfied with the way
the competitions are conducted. And who can blame them? Quite often, the judging
standards, even at figure events, are favoring an appearance that’s far from being
the positive, healthy, fit, feminine look that the public, as well as most competitors,
want to see. So, at the end of last year, we knew something had a change.
That need for change is why, in 2007, we will be conducting
the first ever SAF Model Search – the first competition of many. The event will be
held on June 15, 2007, in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall at York University, which
is located in North York (Toronto), Ontario, Canada. The Tribute Communities Recital Hall
is a beautiful new facility with a large stage and a great lighting system that will
wonderfully showcase the entrants in this inaugural event. Any woman 18 years of age or
older from anywhere in the world can compete.
This first event will be divided into two categories: Fitness
Model and Figure Model. The Fitness Models will be judged wearing two outfits
– a one- or two-piece swimsuit of their choice and fitness-wear of their choice. The
Figure Models will be judged in one outfit – a two-piece bikini.
Whether a woman enters the Figure Model or Fitness Model
category will depend on her physique and overall appearance. (To give women more help with
that I’ve also written an article this month in the "People" section called
"Meet Our Girls of SAF and Learn How You Might Become the Next One!") What is
common to both categories, though, is that the winners will have that healthy, athletic,
attractive look that can be attained through safe, sensible, natural training methods and
healthy eating practices. We’re looking for positive role models that other women can
aspire to and the majority of the public can relate to.
The winners in each category will also have one more thing
in common: great gifts, including cash prizes for the winners, as well as tremendous
exposure opportunities. Furthermore, the top-three winners in each category will be
qualified for "SAF Elite" status – a designation that will allow them to
compete in the exclusive Elite division in future SAF Model Search competitions. These
Elite competitions will have even more prestige, greater exposure, and more prizes;
however, they will only be open to SAF Elite-qualified women.

There you will find the rules and regulations along with all the necessary information
you’ll need if you wish to compete. Our goal with the SAF Model Search is to put into
place this fresh focus on being fit and feminine and create an event to remember, as well
as lay the groundwork for a positive future for fit-minded females worldwide.
