You Know Youre Ready When
Although many of us preparing for the 2003 CBBF Fitness and
Figure Championships (in Edmonton, May 24) have been in the "on-season" training
mode for the past several months, the last four weeks of contest prep are generally the
most trying. With only 24 days left (562 hours, 30 minutes, and 60 seconds to be exact),
our pre-contest emotions are surely in full swing.
Despite the fact this will be my seventh competition, I
have found some things never change, namely, the gamut of emotions I go through prior to a
show. So, whether this is one of your first shows, or one of your first dozen, I am sure
you can relate to these universal symptoms that let us know we are on track. Now,
dont get me wrong, fitness is a very rewarding sport. But, it is also especially
enjoyable to reminisce about the things we put ourselves through (both physically and
emotionally) for those few minutes of fame come contest day!
Telltale signs that a show is just around the corner:
- Everything draws one of two reactions from you: You either
laugh or cry.
- The acronym PMS should be replaced with PSM (Pre-Show
Mood-swings).
- Everything that is not a part of your pre-contest diet looks
"good enough to eat!"
- You would make the perfect candidate for a seniors
residence because your bedtime curfew does not extend much past 10 oclock (unless
you are working or training, of course).
- You have asked yourself at least once, "Why am I doing
this again?"
- You would not have to think twice if someone asked you,
"Which is better -- sex or chocolate?" First off, you have not been allowed to
eat chocolate for a few weeks, which makes it tempting enough. And sex? Who has time or
the energy for it? At this point, sex is thought of in terms of how many calories it will
burn.
- You purposely drive by ice-cream parlors, or go out of your
way to pass through the baking or snack section of your grocery store to gawk over all the
food you would eat if you were not dieting.
- You have dreamt about being onstage at least once.
- You look forward to going to bed
so you can wake up
and eat your first meal.
- Although you still have to iron out last-minute details
about your trip to the nationals and are still putting the finishing touches on your
costume and routine, you have already finalized the details about one very important
aspect of the competition: What you are going to eat after the show!
Good luck in your final prep days -- and see you soon!
